USEFUL INFORMATION

HISTORY ABOUT CUSCO

The foundation of Cuzco is an enigma for its diverse histories, it was the capital of the Inca Kingdom, it was also a religious and political city.
During the period of Pachacutec and Tupac Yupanqui, the domain of Cuzco reached as far as Quito, to the north, and as far as the Maule River, to the south, integrating culturally the inhabitants of 4500 km of mountain range.

It is also believed that the original design of the city is the work of Pachacutec. The plan of ancient Cuzco has the shape of a puma, with the central square Haucaypata in the position that would occupy the chest of the animal.

The feline's head would be located on the hill where the Sacsayhuaman fortress is located.

The city of Cuzco was conceived as the seat of power and its internal organization responded to a traditional Inca urban division, it was located in a central strategic point of the empire, in whose centrality converged the four roads that united theirs.
