USEFUL INFORMATION
HISTORY ABOUT LIMA
The historic city of Lima was founded on 18 January 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, who named it the land of kings in honour of King Carlos I.
The city became an important area for the Viceroyalty of Peru, later to be called Lima by the indigenous people.
Lima comes from Rimaq, which means "talker" in Quechua, after the river that seems to be able to talk because of the current and the clash with the rocks.
In 1821, Lima gained its independence and thus definitively established itself as the capital of the Republic of Peru. After that, the city faced economic stagnation and political disorder, which slowed its urban development.
But this changed in the 1850s, when it began to experience considerable growth in the public and private sectors thanks to the export of guano.
